About BCDS

Bylaws and meeting minutes

Who are we and what are we doing?

The content of this page is definitely in "under construction" mode, but suffice it to say that the Bellingham Country Dance Society, over the past 10-15 years (in various incarnations) has been presenting an ongoing series of participatory old-time country dances...usually New England contras and Southern squares but occasionally delving into Cajun and/or other relevant surprises.

Dances are usually held at the historic Fairhaven Library in beautiful and bucolic Bellingham, Washington. All dances are taught...if you can walk, you can dance. You don't have to bring a partner (but by all means, bring ALL of your friends!). No special costumes are required, however for comfort's sake (and to protect our new floor), we suggest wearing comfortable soft-soled non-street shoes and loose-fitting clothing. (Note: the clothing actually has very little to do with the floor, but the choice of shoes definitely does.) Dancing is always to live music.

Aside from our regular twice-monthly dances, several special events are also scheduled. These include an annual ferry boat dance-cruise of the San Juan Islands, a New Years Eve dance, a couple of summer outdoor dances usually at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal (Alaska Ferry Terminal in Fairhaven), and since 1998, a dusk-to-dawn dance at the glorious and stately Rexville Grange near La Conner.

BCDS is a non profit educational organization affiliated with the Country Dance and Song Society and is organized in compliance with IRS code, section 501(c)3
