💙🌿 Bluebell Bonanza Hike + River Test Extension (Brickkiln Woods) 🌿💙
Sat 25 April | Spring at full volume + a riverside reset 🐟✨
April means one thing: bluebells turning the woodland floor into a blue-purple carpet 😮💨💙
For this one we’re heading out to Brickkiln Woods (a short walk from Whitchurch Station) for peak spring vibes, then we’ll extend the hike to the River Test for a calm, riverside finish.
Brickkiln Woods (often referenced locally as Brickkiln Copse) sits among pockets of ancient woodland, the kind of place that goes full fairy-tale when bluebells arrive 🌳✨ and is well-known for springtime bluebell displays.
Then we’ll head to the River Test, one of Hampshire’s famous chalk streams. Chalk streams are globally rare (only around 200 worldwide, with many in England), and they’re known for clear, cool, mineral-rich water and rich wildlife. The Test itself is a chalk stream that runs through Hampshire down to Southampton Water.
Basically: bluebells first, then “sit by a perfect river and pretend life is a slow documentary” 🌊🫶

📍 Meeting point: London PADDINGTON

1) Is this hike suitable for all abilities? 👣
Yes, it’s designed to be steady and social. We’ll take breaks, keep a supportive pace, and regroup often.
2) How long will we be walking? ⏱️
We’ll spend a few hours out walking (bluebell woodland + river extension). Exact timing depends on pace of hike and how long we linger for photos and food stops and riverside vibes 📸🌿
3) What should I wear? 👟🧥
Comfy walking shoes/boots (woodland paths can be muddy), layers, and a light waterproof. April loves surprises 🌦️
4) What should I bring? 🎒
Water 💧, snacks 🍌, optional packed lunch 🥪, and a portable charger if you’re on content duty 📸🔋
5) Are bluebells protected / any etiquette? 💙
Yes please: look, admire, photograph… but don’t trample. We’ll stick to paths where possible so the bluebell carpets can keep thriving 🌸
6) What’s special about the River Test? 🌊
It’s a famous chalk stream with clear water and rich wildlife, part of a rare type of river habitat found in only a small number of places worldwide.
7) Will there be toilets? 🚻
Best bet is using facilities at Paddington before we leave. We’ll share any available options near the route in the chat on the day.
8) Can I bring my dog? 🐶
If your dog is chill in groups and you’re happy keeping them on-lead in woodland and near wildlife, usually yes. (If the group is large, we may advise keeping pups at home for ease.)
9) What if the weather’s awful? 🌧️
Light rain is manageable with waterproofs. If it’s genuinely grim or unsafe, we’ll make a call and update everyone with a backup plan.
