Okay, so I just finished reading The Gilded Cage and honestly, I’m still kind of sitting with it. The whole thing takes place in this world where your color basically decides who you are, and if you step out of line, well, it’s not going to end well for you. The main character, she just feels so real—trapped, frustrated, trying to figure out if there’s even a point to pushing back when everything is stacked against her.

What really stuck out to me wasn’t even the big dramatic stuff, but all those quiet moments—just the way people make these tiny choices, sometimes not even saying anything, just kind of surviving however they can. It’s definitely not a feel-good read, but I think that’s kind of the point. It makes you think about how much you’d put up with if it meant staying safe.

If you’re the kind of person who likes stories that are a little dark, maybe a bit uncomfortable, but stick with you because they feel true, I’d say give this one a try. I can’t stop thinking about it, honestly.
