Sobre esta sesión

Zikr (or Dhikr) means “remembrance”.

An ancient practice rooted in Islamic spirituality and widely cultivated within Sufi traditions.

The practice centers on the conscious repetition of
Sacred Names - formulas (such as the 99 Names of Allah), guided by breath, rhythm, and intention.
It is offered as a path of remembrance, presence,
inner refinement, and purification of the heart —
orienting awareness toward Divine Unity.

How it works

📿 Traditional Lens

Within the Sufi tradition, Zikr is approached as a discipline that may support:

Remembrance of the Divine
(turning attention toward Unity)
Purification/refinement of the heart (tazkiyah)
Presence and sincerity (ikhlās)
Softening of inner agitation and
strengthening of inner steadiness
Humility and devotion through repetition
and attentivenes

🌬 Physiological Lens

The rhythmic breathing often used in Zikr may:

• Activate the parasympathetic nervous system
• Reduce stress activation
(commonly associated with cortisol dynamics)
• Support heart-rate regulation
• Improve heart-rate variability (coherence)
• Support vagal tone (vagus nerve function)

🔊 Voice Vibration & Biochemistry

The vibration of the voice may:

• Resonate through the chest and cranial cavities
• Support vagal stimulation via vocalization and resonance
• Support emotional settling
• Be associated with neurochemical patterns linked to wellbeing (often discussed in relation to serotonin/oxytocin pathways)

Scientific Framing

Modern frameworks may describe parts of this experience as:

• Rhythmic breathing / paced respiration
• Autonomic nervous system regulation
• Acoustic self-regulation through vocalization
• Entrainment (attention + rhythm)
• State-shift and stabilization through repetition and sound

Sobre el anfitrión

Hi and welcome! My name is Dimitri Dermentzioglou. I am a lifelong student and servant of Music. For more than three decades, I have lived, researched, practiced and embodied music as a path of devotion, celebration and transformation. I have served internationally as a DJ, multi-instrumentalist, music therapist, composer, ceremony facilitator, curator of improvisational circles, voice activator, mentor and cultural bridge-builder. Yet beyond all titles, I am simply an artist devoted to the sacred potential of sound. Since 2015, my life’s work has been rooted in The Music Medicine a living philosophy, study and practice exploring music and frequency as tools for consciousness, healing and cultural preservation. My journey has been deeply shaped by indigenous and plant medicine traditions in Brazil, and later profoundly redefined through my return to Turkey and immersion in Sufi mysticism. These encounters transformed music from performance into prayer from entertainment into service. Through years of direct experience in rituals, religious ceremonies and ancestral traditions across cultures, I have come to understand music as a universal medicine one that harmonizes the nervous system, unifies communities, awakens memory, and restores meaning. This understanding evolved into what I call a Frequency Lifestyle a conscious way of living in alignment with vibration, intention and sacred responsibility. Today, my work stands at the meeting point of: Tradition and modernity Spirituality and science Celebration and contemplation Art and service Through festivals, sacred gatherings, educational programs, temple spaces, digital platforms and mentorship, I create containers where music becomes a bridge between cultures, between inner and outer worlds, between the human and the Divine. My mission is to preserve and evolve ancestral wisdom through sound, empower artists to serve consciously, and cultivate spaces where harmony, dignity and joy can flourish. Music is the way I live, pray and contribute to the world.
