"Instant freezing" - Icebergs and waves in Iceland's black beach (Fine Art Framed Print, limited edition)

Layered dark waves full of texture crushing violently into floating icebergs like a loop. A dramatic scene that makes everyone doubt wether to feel calm or anxiety. The luminous pieces of ice shine and seem to have interior bright with the effect of water splashing towards them. Behind, a sunset tries to appear before dawn over the horizon. You can even see the extreme cold in the image, it's somehow visible. Breiðamerkursandur is one of the black sand beaches in Iceland where glaciar meets the sea. Enormous pieces of ice fragments float in the water until they reach the coast lying over volcanic rocks. Not easy to reach (like any Icelandic spot that needs to pass by a stone-dirt road) This remote place is renowned for its dangerous, powerful and unpredictable “killer waves” that can surge far up the shore being fatal. But that’s not enough. In winter temperatures may reach -10 degrees. The ice block has one last instant to freeze towards the light of the scarce sun before the waves whip it completely. This photography is participating during 2026 in “The Shape of a Moment”, international contest for Exposure Photo Gallery. I almost freeze while I tried to capture this instant, but it was worthy every degree. A unique story behind the picture.
