I'm Nicola, and after decades of helping others overcome challenges as a coach and mentor, I found myself facing my own turning point. Recovering from an emotionally harmful relationship in midlife, I felt lost and unsure of who I was.
Healing from my emotionally harmful relationship has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

Two years ago, everything changed for me.

At 56, I was on my own for the first time in 30 years, I felt lost and vulnerable. I had no idea who I was or what my life would look like now.

The only thing I knew was that I couldn’t live like this forever; life is too short for that.

From my professional work, I have seen how powerful the mind and thought can be, both in good and bad ways. So I focused on that. I might not be able to change my circumstances, but I can certainly change how I view them and how I see my future.

So I studied positive psychology, allowed myself to feel long-ignored emotions, made mistakes, and learned from them. Gradually, I began taking responsibility for my life—maybe for the first time.

I hadn’t lost myself; I had just faded into the background. Years of helping others made me forget my own needs. My passions and direction were hidden, not gone.

Now, two years after that turning point, I am happier than I have been in decades.

Now I know what I want and can say no without guilt. My passions and purpose are returning. When you stop putting others first, you finally explore your own comfort.
